Portage Pool offers group lessons to children and youth starting as young as 6 months. Portage Pool is an affiliate of the Canadian Red Cross and offers the Canadian Red Cross Swim Kids and Preschool curricula. The Red Cross Swim program is a national program.
The Red Cross Preschool program is for children aged 6 months to 6 years. The first two levels of the Preschool program are parented, meaning that one parent or guardian accompanies the child in the water during each lesson. Babies and caregivers work with a certified Red Cross Water Safety Instructor on the following skills in these participation based courses:
For more information on the levels Starfish, Duck, and Sea Turtle, please click here.

The Red Cross Swim Kids program is for children aged 5 years and up. We recommend swimmers remain in Preschool levels until age 6.
Portage Pool also offers free swim assessments in order to help you choose the appropriate class for your child. Feel free to call the Pool Front Desk for assistance in placing your child in the correct level.
A guide to the Red Cross Swim Kids curriculum can be found here to assist you in determining your child’s level.
